Loss of productivity

Loss of productivity

Loss of productivity occurs when online employees spend work time "off-task".

More and more employees are spending increasing amounts of time using corporate ICT resources to carry out their daily duties. Email, Instant Messaging and collaboration tools along with increased, high speed Internet access, are fundamental requirements for every modern business.

Many employees see little difference between how they make use of their employer's computer resources whilst at work, and how they use their home computers.

Employees often see no problem in spending work time using corporate IT resources for their own personal use. Access to Social Networking sites, shopping, gambling, downloading music and films, on-line gaming and accessing inappropriate materials such as pornography, all have an impact on their productivity, can offend colleagues, compromise network security, put clients data at risk and damage the organisations reputation.

Cumulatively this can have a major impact on the productivity across the entire enterprise. Unsafe browsing can become a major drain on infrastructure bandwidth thus reducing network speed.
